Frequently Asked Questions
About the IV
Does IV therapy hurt?
A: Needle fear is one of the most common things we hear — and one of the most common things people are surprised by after their first visit. Most guests describe the IV placement as a small, brief pinch. Our nurses are gentle, patient, and experienced at making you feel at ease. We walk you through every step and never rush.
"That was so much easier than I thought" is something we hear almost every day.
Is IV Therapy Safe?
A: Yes. All Desert Elixirs sessions are administered by licensed nurses following strict medical safety protocols. Every new guest also completes a Good Faith Exam with our Nurse Practitioner before their first session — this ensures your drip is appropriate for your health and tailored to your needs.
You're in good hands. That's a promise.
How long does a session take?
A: Most IV drip sessions take between 45 and 60 minutes. You'll relax in a comfortable chair while the drip does its work. Many guests start feeling the effects before their session is even over. IV Push add-ons take just a few minutes and can be done on their own or at the end of your drip.
How quickly will I fee the effects?
A: Because IV therapy delivers nutrients directly into your bloodstream, many guests begin to feel a difference within 20 to 30 minutes of starting their session. Most folks feel refreshed and like themselves again within the hour. Individual experience varies depending on your health, hydration level, and the blend you choose.
What is actually in the IV drip?
A: All of our blends are made with pharmaceutical-grade vitamins, minerals, and fluids. Depending on your chosen mix, ingredients may include magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, Vitamin C, zinc, biotin, and IV-grade saline. You can see the full ingredient list for each mix on our IV Hydration Mixes page.
Our nurses are always happy to walk you through exactly what's going into your drip and why. Transparency is important to us.
Your Visit
What should I expect at my appointment
A: When you arrive, your nurse will check you in and complete your Good Faith Exam (required for all new guests). From there, you'll choose your blend — or your nurse will help you find the right one — and get settled into a comfortable chair. The IV is placed, and then you simply relax for 45 to 60 minutes while it runs. No rush, no fuss.
Come on in. We'll take care of the rest.
Do I need a Good Faith Exam?
A: Yes — all new guests are required to complete a Good Faith Exam with our Nurse Practitioner before their first IV session. This is a brief health assessment that ensures your treatment is safe, appropriate, and personalized for you. The exam costs $40 and takes place at the time of your appointment.
Returning guests are required to complete a new Good Faith Exam once per year.
Do you offer mobile IV services?
A: Yes — depending on your location and availability, we can bring IV hydration directly to you. Whether you're at a vacation rental, a hotel, or a campsite in the Big Bend area, we'll do our best to accommodate you. Contact us to discuss availability and we'll work out the details.
Can I customize my drip?
A: Absolutely. Every drip at Desert Elixirs can be customized with add-ons based on what your body needs that day. Our nurses will help you find the right combination — whether you want to add a glutathione push, a B12 injection, NAD+, or any of our other IV Push options. Just ask and we'll talk through it with you.
Do you take insurance?
A: We do not accept insurance. All services are self-pay by cash or credit card. Our current pricing is listed on the IV Hydration Mixes page. If you have questions about cost before booking, give us a call — we're happy to walk through your options.
Do you offer group sessions?
A: We do — and it's one of our favorite things to host. Group sessions are perfect for bachelorette weekends, reunions, golf outings, or any occasion where you want your whole crew feeling their best. Book 4 or more sessions together and receive 20% off. We ask for at least one week's notice for group bookings so we can have everything ready for you.
Visit our Celebration Hydration page to learn more or reach out directly to start planning.
Where are you located?
A: We're located at 725 Fulcher Rd, Terlingua, TX 79852 — right at the gateway to Big Bend National Park. We're open seven days a week by appointment. Call us at 1-800-531-0910 or book online through our patient portal.
How do I book an appointment?
A: You can book directly through our online patient portal — the link is in the navigation at the top of the page. We recommend booking a few weeks ahead, especially during busy Big Bend season, to make sure you get the time that works for you. A credit card is required to hold your spot.
Prefer to talk it through first? Give us a call at 1-800-531-0910. We're happy to help you pick the right mix and find a time that works.
